Meet Lisa

For renowned cookbook author Lisa Goldberg, it’s always about the food.

The Melbourne-born home cook moved to Sydney for love in the late 80s and started working life as a solicitor. After some years, she retired from the law to raise a family and then searched for a more delicious path.

She co-founded the Monday Morning Cooking Club in 2006 and - as ‘Chief Pot Stirrer’ - led the group to publish four best-selling award winning cookbooks (2011 - 2020), which document and preserve recipes from unexpectedly diverse Jewish kitchens across Australia and the globe.

Lisa has created the content for the MMCC website since its inception, writing with authority and humour. She has immersed herself in the world of live conversations and cooking sessions on-air and online - including Sydney Writers Festival, Channel 7, Facebook and Instagram.

She has collaborated with providores (Simon Johnson, Olsson’s Salt), chefs (Michael Rantissi) and artisans (Kristen Allan Cheesemaker). During the worst phase of the pandemic she created and hosted the almost-daily ‘Lisa’s Lockdown Kitchen’ Instagram Live sessions comprising cooking, conversation and fun, with a dedicated audience who were as excited to see their cooking skills grow as they were to be part of a new online community.

Now she’s turning her hand to a new and different enterprise, combining her loves of eating, walking and entertaining to bring us the great new YouTube series Walking Up an Appetite.

If she’s not in the kitchen (and not walking her gorgeous big dogs) you’ll find her workshopping the menu for her Friday night ‘shabbat’ dinner with the family, trawling the markets and food providores for whatever is good and in season or planning the next dish and the next suburb to visit on her quest to discover all the deliciousness that needs to be shared.

It is, after all,
always about the food.

Walking Up
An Appetite

“There’s got to be joy in the journey and deliciousness in the destination!”

In this mouthwatering, deliciously real and hugely entertaining hot-off-the-press youtube series -  Walking Up an Appetite -  author, cook and Instagram Live host Lisa shares the things she LOVES to do - eat, walk, chat, discover and cook.

In each delectable episode, Lisa walks around 10km through the streets of Sydney and shares her favourite 3 versions of the same food - it might be a hot brisket sandwich, a golden croissant or a steaming bowl of pho - along the way. Get ready for special guests, suburb snippets, tantalizing behind-the-scenes footage and new places, faces and tastes. And, after all the steps and km have been counted, we meet in Lisa’s kitchen to cook something inspired by the day.

And a word of warning, serious, irresistible cravings will definitely follow.

Lockdown Kitchen Sizzle Reel

Inspired to reach out to everyone stuck at home during the Covid lockdowns, Lisa’s creative response was to begin hosting ‘Lisa’s Lockdown Kitchen 2021’, an almost-daily Instagram Live event comprising sessions of cooking, conversation and fun.

It started with a casual promise to Monday Morning Cooking Club fans and then - over the course of more than 20 weeks - Lisa inadvertently created a community of like-minded food lovers who enjoyed the recipes and ideas, the hilarity and the music (there is even a Spotify playlist) and the open, honest conversations in real time about the issues we all faced during that period. And then - together - we ate!
